PERSONAL STATEMENT:     I have over 20 years experience as a psychotherapist. Although trained as an Adlerian Psychotherapist, I approach life’s difficulties from an integrative framework which is individually tailored to each of my clients. In addition to Adlerian psychotherapy, your treatment may include cognitive behaviour therapy [CBT], Rogerian therapy, reality therapy, attachment theory, brief solution-focussed therapy, dream analysis, life-style diagnosis and art therapy (particularly useful with children, teens and those too traumatized to articulate their feelings and beliefs).

My overall approach is very down-to-earth, goal-directed and non-judgemental. In counselling, we may look at the past (depending on the issue) only to understand how you got to be where you are today and to undo the thoughts and beliefs you formed when you were young that are causing you problems today (called "cognitive restructuring). Unlike many kinds of therapy that dwell on the past, our focus is on movement forward – where you are right now and where you want to be when the problems are resolved. This will enable you to lead a healthy and productive life, not be distressed by the things that are currently weighing you down.

Adlerian Psychotherapy is a holistic psychotherapy -- meaning we look at the whole person, not just the symptoms you are experiencing. This includes the personal relationships in your life, your current home atmosphere, your upbringing, your current & past socio-economic class, your culture, your religious beliefs, your physical condition (including any illnesses or disabilities), your environment as well as your career and work situation. All of these things have shaped your personality and outlook on life, your interpretation of events, your physical and psychological reaction to events and your ability to cope with various situations.

Whatever your reason for counselling, we will explore these issues in a calm, caring, warm and relaxing environment where you set the pace. I look forward to working with you.

CREDENTIALS:
  • Master of Social Work Degree – University of Toronto
  • Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology- McGill University
  • Member of the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (OCSWSSW)

PERSONAL STATEMENT:      Over the last three years, I have worked within various multi-disciplinary teams in Psychiatry. I have experience working with children, adolescents, adults and families with a variety of mental health related issues, including, depression, anxiety, trauma and somatization. Prior to beginning my Masters, I worked at the Douglas Mental Health University Institute as a Clinical Research Coordinator in Montreal.

During this role, I worked with an adolescent population who were diagnosed with depression and/or concurrent disorders. During my Masters I completed various internships in mental health at Women’s College Hospital and The Hospital for Sick Children.

My therapeutic approach is client-centred, eclectic and strength-based. Furthermore, I utilize a trauma informed lens and evidence-based practices when working with clients. I am keen on fostering a non-judgemental, empathetic and collaborative relationship with individuals in order to establish trust and create a safe space. I believe this is crucial in order to establish a strong therapeutic alliance, which is one of the key components for a successful therapeutic outcome. Lastly, through a holistic perspective, I am oriented in supporting both individuals and their families, as families are often affected by their loved one’s distress and provide an additional safe space for recovery.

I use an integrated therapeutic model, which draws on cognitive behavioural therapy, narrative therapy, relational psychotherapies and mindfulness. Through a CBT lens, I help clients self-explore how past experiences affect current cognitions, feelings and behaviour in order to create cognitive restructuring. Furthermore, through a narrative approach, I am motivated to stimulate an individual’s outlook for how they see themselves, in order to create alternative self-stories and to foster greater self-gratification.
