Rates

Our rates depend upon what we are doing and the time of day the service is offered. Our evening and weekend appointments are most in demand.  To encourage clients to come during the weekday time slots, we offer reduced rates.

Our rates vary from $125.00 / hr to $200.00 / hr depending on:

  • Time of the appointment --- evenings and weekend rates are slightly higher as they are most in demand and fewer time slots are available.
  • Individual or couples therapy -- the latter is billed at a slightly higher rate
  • Family therapy is billed at the same rate as couples therapy.
  • Emergency appointments outside of: M-F 9:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m., Saturday 9-4 are billed at $250.00 an hour, payable in advance or at the beginning of the session.
  • Sliding Scale payments are available to those in financial need (see below)

 * Emergency appointments outside of the above hours are billed at $250.00 an hour, payable in advance.
 * Sliding Scale available to those in financial need.  See below.

PLEASE NOTE: A "Professional Hour" is 50 minutes in session. If you go over-time, you will be charged in 15 minute increments. If another client is booked right after you, it will not be possible to extend your session. As a courtesy to them, I like to start their appointment on time.

For your first psychotherapy session, please arrive 10 minutes ahead of time as there is a brief form that has to be completed (name, address & e-mail address, medical information, medications, etc.)

Many people find an hour is not enough -- if this is the case, please be sure to book a longer time slot.  As I often have appointments back-to-back,  I cannot always run overtime -- it is not fair to the next client who is waiting. Better to book your longer time-slot ahead of time.

CAREER TESTING

STUDENTS:  We charge a flat rate equivalent to 5 sessions of counselling, broken down as:
  • 1 Hr interview & testing *
  • 1 Hr additional testing *
  • 3 Hrs to analyse test results and prepare your written 8-10 page report
  • 1 Hr meeting with student & parent to review the results of the assessments.

* Students may be tested in groups (but interview is done separately) This includes the cost of all testing materials You take home a permanent presentation folder to keep and an additional copy of the report (one for parents, one for the student).

ADULTS:  We charge a flat rate equivalent to 6 sessions of counselling, broken down as:
  • 1 Hr interview & testing
  • 1 Hr additional testing
  • 3 Hrs to analyse test results and prepare your written 8-10 page report
  • 1 Hr meeting with student & parent to review the results of the assessments.

Adults are tested individually. This includes the cost of all testing materials
You take home a permanent presentation folder to keep and an additional copy of the report.

NOTE:  Career testing, when done by a Registered Psychotherapist, is usually covered by your extended health coverage. If they require a Clinical Psychologist in order to be reimbursed, that's not a problem, I can still issue a receipt but it is at a slightly higher rate (the Psychologist's rate that I work in collaboration with, called a "Supervised Practice" model. Receipts are issued as "Individual Psychotherapy" and the insurance companies do not require specifics about what we discussed in session (nor am I legally allowed to disclose any confidential information). And face it, choosing a career or university is, indeed, very stressful! If you don't have extended health coverage, then save your receipt for tax time --- Psychotherapy is an authorized medical expense.

MISSED APPOINTMENTS

When you book an appointment with me, I block off that hour (or more) to spend with you and only you and I am there, ready and waiting for our appointment time. This means I am not available to see other clients, as it is set aside as "your hour". You will be charged for your appointment if you miss or cancel an appointment with less than 24 hours notice. I would appreciate as much advance notice, however, if you are cancelling or rescheduling, as it enables me to fill that time slot with someone else who needs help.  The only exception is illness, and you are allowed one missed appointment at no charge due to illness during a 6-month time period.  If you are in couples therapy, the other partner would still be expected to attend as it is highly unlikely that you are both sick.   We can still do work on a one-to-one basis with one partner.    In fact, in many cases with couples, I see the clients together and separately .

INSURANCE COMPANIES & OHIP

As we are not medical doctors, we cannot bill through OHIP.   Many insurance companies, however, DO cover psychotherapy.   Each insurance company offers many different "packages" to employers -- check with your insurance provider to see which package your employer has purchased.   The premium packages (albeit also most expensive)  do include psychotherapy  -- usually it's a group of 3 professional services that are covered:   chiropractor, massage therapy and psychotherapy.   If they cover psychotherapy, also ask the details of the coverage.  Some companies allow a certain dollar amount per session with no limit as to how many sessions,  some will only allow a certain dollar amount for a specific period of time (often 6 or 10 sessions, after which they don't cover it -- if you continue, you would have to pay out of your own pockst.),  others will allow a certain yearly price limit -- and you are at liberty to use that allocation however you want.   Check with your provider to be sure.  You would be responsible for submitting the claim -- we do not bill directly.

PAYMENT:

Cash or Cheque only at this time.

SLIDING SCALE PAYMENTS

We have some times slots, always during the day time, to offer a small amount of therapy sessions to those who cannot afford to pay the full rate.   This is on a demonstrated need basis (i.e. proof of income is needed).  Please feel free to discuss this with us.

We do not do pro-bono work. We believe that there is no "investment" in the therapeutic process if one does not have to invest financially in one's well-being, no matter how small that amount.
